Movie time: DVD’o'Rama
I always try and talk a bit about the DVD’s I watch, but lately I’ve been swamped by so much other stuff, well you know the drill. So here’s the DVD special of the week :p
In a nutshell, cool special effect, gay storyline.
Really? Yes really. It’s to be expected offcourse. A movie based upon a comicbook. Super-rich man builds a special gigantic robotic suit from scrath in the middle of the desert while being kidnapped and captured by a bunch of terrorists.
DVD’o'Rama verdict: 2/5
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom o/t Crystal Skull
Jesus that’s one hell of a title.
Well for starters, we’re talking about Indiana Jones. And he got old. Damn he got old. Again, the movie is loaded with cool special effects. The bad guys this time are no nazi’s, but commies. Nice to see a change. I only wished they weren’t so stereotyped. But like I said, we’re talking about Indiana Jones here, so I can’t say anything bad about it can I?
DVD’o'Rama verdict: 3.5/5
Admit it, why do you watch Stargate? Because of Macgyver offcourse, euhm I mean R.D. Anderson. So what’s the deal with this movie? Bad guy managers to alter the universe/time and screws us humans. The new SG1 team has to fix it. Although I stopped watching the series after the original SG1 team was put to an end (Atlantis I really don’t like) I really enjoyed this movie. It’s fast and action paced and brings back the old SG1 castmembers. A definite must see for any sci-fi fan.
DVD’o'Rama verdict: 4/5
Terminator Salvation starring Christian Bale
Check out the trailer of Terminator: Salvation.
It will be starring golden boy Christian Bale
This is the story:
“Set in post-apocalyptic 2018, John Connor (Christian Bale), the man fated to be the leader of the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators, and the future he was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they find out a terrible secret that may lead to the possible annihilation of mankind.”
Sounds a bit awkward, but it is said to be not your typical Terminator movie, and it won’t be starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator. Christian Bale was at first disinterested, until Joseph “McG” McGinty Nichol convinced him the story would be character-based and not rely on special effects.
The trailer looks cool, although it’s pretty short.
Movie review: In the valley of Elah
What’s this title all about?
Tommy Lee Jones stars as Hank Deerfield, a man who decides to take matters into his own hands when he finds out that his son has disappeared. However, what complicates matters is that Deerfield’s son is a soldier on leave (from Iraq), and the military are proving to be little help in getting to the bottom of the mystery.
This is not a real clear anti-war movie, but more a wakeup call for those that live by blind patriotism. It adresses the horror of war, the scars the soldiers bring home with them.
Tommy Lee Jones, with is sad voice and dog-like please don’t hurt me face, really shines in his role. Again, the ending is a bit surprising, and it is not a happy ending (my kind of movie).
If you like real acting movies, without throwing 10 million dollars at the special effects departement, then this is a definate must see.
Movie review: The Mist

I kinda had high hopes for this title (The Mist).
The movie starts off very nice. A father goes to the city/marketplace to stock up after a big storm. Suddenly all hell breaks loose, police and armymen (from a nearby base) go nuts. A big mist arrives and covers up the entire city. A bunch of people along with the father and son get locked up inside the store.
Then … the stuff you’re waiting for. People start dying, you start to see weird creatures. What’s going on? People start to go mental. Yay baby, bring it on.
But then the movie starts heading into the twilight zone. I’m not going to spoil it for anyone that might buy the DVD in the future, but I’ll tell you right away, think twilight zone.
What really turned me off was the ending. I mean really, WTH … I guess the writers were fresh out of ideas or something. Can you say D R A M A?
The acting is nice, especially from Thomas Jane (who plays David, the father character), the terror and panic and whatnot. The special effects are pretty cool (and gruesome) at times. But the ending, come on, you can see that coming a mile away.
Anyway, an entertaining watch, but it’s not the kind of movie you’ll watch ever again. Ebay FTW.
