Acer aspire 7730g vs the macbook

I’ve finally gotten around to replacing my desktop with a laptop. And believe you me, the decision wasn’t easy. So many laptops to choose from.

For starters, a MAC or a PC?
I’ve been drooling on that beauifull Macbook for a long time with its slick white/black minimalistic design. But, and it’s a big but, Macbooks are so damn expensive. At least in comparison with their PC counterparts. I’ll explain below:

Acer VS Macbook laptop

I’ve outlined the basic specifications of both laptops.
As you can see, there are some major differences.

For starters, there’s the bigger screen you get on the Acer. Granted, that is a personal preference, and yes you can claim a laptop is supposed to be smallish etc … But like I said, I’m replacing my desktop, so screen width matters to me. +1 for Acer.

Second, you get 2GB of memory extra. Maybe not that important in a regular laptop you use for surfing and blogging and blabla, but remember desktop replacement? Yea that again. So that’s +2 for Acer.

We move on to the HD. Again Acer beats the Macbook. You almost get double the amount of space. What’s up with that? +3 for Acer. This is getting embarracing.

Lets not mention the faster grafic card, the extra USB ports, the HDMI slot, 5 in 1 card reader …

Why did I want to buy a Macbook again?
Oh yea, this is why.

Apple ads rock. They do. They totally rock your world.
Okay, maybe I’m going apeshit here, but you get my drift. They put this feeling inside you that Apple computers are something special. Maybe there are, I don’t own one, but after seeing the above comparison, you have to admit, 799€ vs 1199€ is a big eye-opener no?

I know, I know. You’re going to say “The Apple laptop is not what you should be going for if you want to replace a desktop!”. I agree, but have you seen the prices in the Macbook Pro? I mean have you really? You’re paying double the price just because it’s a Mac!

No, no, let Apple have their cool ads, their shiney, uber-cool, minimalistic designs. I’m sticking with my Acer Aspire 7730G.
Ok it has Windows Vista on it, I’ll survive the bugs.
Ok Windows 7.0 will arrive soon (If you believe the rumors), I can live with that.
Ok it comes with a lot of pre-installed crap like Mcafee antivirus free for 60 days, woohoo, eSobi, Orion, the Acer gamezone console and the Acer arcade delux … I can live with that.

So I bought the Acer Aspire 7730G. And up until now *grabs a piece of wood* I’m a happy camper.

Did I mention the wireless network I installed at home? 802.11n draft rocks :)

Random links and fun stuff

Some interesting links of the day. I’ve always been a sucker for sci-fi art and evil robots.

And if you are bored and feel like killin’ I present to you, the Endless Zombie Rampage game. Pretty nice.

And a website you can spend hours browsing: Passiveagressivenotes.com
We’ve all seen this before, someone does something that annoyes the crap out of you, and you leave a note to that person saying never even do that again. They also have a book. Check out what I mean.

The Awesomer.com. If you like nifty cool stuff, then this site should be in your favorites. Check out this Star Wars Trooper Tshirt. Thanks awesomer :p

Online gaming and a lack of time

That is also known as a sucky combination.
Evening school is more tiring that I thought it would be.

Like I said a while ago, I started with Warhammer Online.
All in all, a very nice game. The PvP is very addictive. I started a Zealot (healer) character on the Karak-Hirn server and I’m really enjoying it. Playing it casually now and then. The character is barely rank (level) 12, so it’s going to be a while until I get to do some keep sieges etc.

Ever since I stopped playing mmo’s, due to personal reasons (read: time), I missed blogging so much, that the decision to start over from scratch on a new domain was easily made. So here we are.

I blog mostly about web2.0, technology, book reviews, Wordpress themes and plugins, tools for web savvys, usability, websites, gaming.
