Semi-coherent ramblings of an internet junkie about business, life & gaming.

Learning from the best

One of the important parts of becoming an online entrepreneur is learning. Learning from other people, learning from other websites, other business models. You name it.

So if you want to create or build something that will make you money, you need to understand how things work, and more importantly, how it doesn’t work.

One of the things I personally do a lot, is take a good look at every website I like, and try and figure out the secrets behind it. How does it make money? How is it designed? Does it uphold the rules of usability? What makes it popular? Why is it popular? What kind of marketing do they do? Who are their partners? Who are their opponents? Is it a potential ad buyer?

As you can see, the list can go on and on.

This way you can learn about other peoples work.
Now I don’t mean you should be copy a succesfull website (cloning) and kid yourself it will make you rich. It just doesn’t work that way. But it’s never a bad idea to understand what does work on the internet and use that or parts of it to your benefit.
And even if you’re not planning on monetizing a website right away, getting the hang of it sure won’t hurt.
