need for empowerment

One of the biggest problems I’m facing at the moment regarding starting a business/project is time, or better said, the lack of it. There just isn’t enough of it in a day. And the same goes for my businesspartner, which happens to be my brother.
We are both dedicated people who really want to make this happen, but sometimes reality checks in and we’re put back on the ground.

For example, his sparetime is dominated by the fact that he’s so busy with the construction of his house, he lacks time to do the programming needed to the site structure and database. So we’re falling behind. This offcourse has an effect om me as well. He is responsible for the PHP/SQL coding stuff, and I’m doing just about everything else. I can’t blame his offcourse, we both have fulltime dayjobs and life has this thing for kicking you in the bullocks when you least expect it.

But one thing we are doing wrong bigtime I realise now, is that we never properly set out goals and milestones. Sure we make little lists when we get together and talk about what’s next, but it’s so important to see where you are now in a project and what ground you’ve covered already.
So this has got to change. We’ve worked with Basecamp before, which is a tool for project and taskmanagement, but actually we found it to be a drag to use.

We’ve come along nicely though, but we seem to be stuck at this very moment, and I need to figure out a way for us to get moving again.
Delegating some work to an external third party is an option, but then again, that could turn out to be an expensive choise. Sure we could quit our dayjobs, get a loan, get other people involved and get funky, but that’s a big jump. A jump I’m not willing to take.

I know a lot of people would label this hesitation as ‘not having enough guts’ or ‘not having the true spirit of entrepreneurship in me’. Fine by me, then call it that. I on the other hand, name it having a decent sense of reality.
No, we need to find something else to get funky. Time for me to put on my thinking cap again..
Anyone good ideas to revitalise or empower?
