Book review: The adsence code

Blogging and making money, it’s the big thing at the moment. Everyone does it and we all want a piece of it.
So I stumbled on The Adsense Code by Joel Comm.

I knew from the start I was buying one of those ‘Oh look here, I’m giving away loads of secrets’ books. To make it clear from the start, you won’t get loads of secrets. In fact, secrets are not to be found in this title. All the things the author talks about are true facts, but it’s nothing new.

The very first thing I noticed was that the book has an unusual large print, lots of blank pages between the chapters and that it is printed a cheap brownish paper. If you have some reading skills, you can finish the book in under two hours or less. One thing that bothered me when reading the book was the fact that the author refers to his products or websites a lot, at times it’s like reading an advertisement brochure.

Sure the book is easy and ‘fun’ to read and in a way the author did a good job collecting all the data in a usefull book and it really does a good job at providing the basic facts about adsense, but lets face it, the information or ’secrets’ like he likes to call them can easily be found on the internet.

So I can’t stop but feel a bit cheated.
But that doesn’t really matter anymore. I bought the book and the money is in Joel Comm’s pocket, so kudos to him.

Would I recommend this title?
If you have absolutely no idea what Google Adsense is about and you’re thinking of implementing it on your website, then yes, this book will help you. Otherwise, leave it alone and thank me for it.

On occasion I try and do some special stuff. For instance I do usability tests on websites. Or you can take a look at some of the famous interviews I've done.

  • Stefson in a nutshell (long)

Stefson.com has grown out of my previous site www.mmopiglet.com (which no longer exists), that was mainly about my time in mmo games. Ever since I stopped playing mmo’s, due to personal reasons (read: time), I missed blogging so much, that the decision to start over from scratch on a new domain was easily made. So here we are.

I blog mostly about web2.0, technology, book reviews, Wordpress themes and plugins, tools for web savvys, usability, websites, gaming.
