Niche minisites and making money
I was speaking to a friend the other day about making money online, and he suggested that I should create more niche mini-sites. So what exactly is a niche mini-site you ask?
A niche is “a distinct market.” A mini-site is simply a very small website (often 10 pages) targetted to something specific.
The benefit of this is that the people visiting your site will be looking for the content you provide.
Personally, I’m always more of a sucker for the longterm plans. But I guess it’s worth trying.
So in the next coming weeks, I’ll be providing information on how to setup and rollout a niche mini-site.
First step is offcourse selecting the market segment you want a site for.
In my opinion it easier to create a site for a rather new product than an already established product. You have to realise, this is a very competitive market you’re in, so being one of the first to jump on a new wagon is always the best.
Second task at hand is information. You’ll need loads of it.
Since you are creating a new site, your main source of visitors will have to come from Search Engines. So that means your site will have to rank well in Google. Sure there are others as well (MSN, Yahoo, Ask…), but for starters, focus on Google.
And this means, focussing on SEO, keywords, content… the whole package.
Third must-do is checking out the competition.
Like we said, starting on a brand new product can be easier, but there will be others looking for fast gain.
So you have to make sure to know who they are, and what they are (possibly) doing better then you.
Fourth up is deciding how to monetize your site.
What the first thing that comes to mind? Google Adsense offcourse. Placing ads on a site had never been easier.
Then there are affiliate programs you can participate in, look for sponsors…
The possiblities are endless here. Offcourse it varies alot from market to market, but if you do your research, chances are you will have to be selective about it.
Fifth is starting the design proces of the site.
It doens’t have to be the world’s most beautifull site ever created. Just make sure you design it with SEO in mind and the fact that you’re placing ads in it.
Sixth is filling it with content.
Also very important, SEO is king here. Don’t be shy to look at others for inspiration, but don’t ever copy/paste from major players like Wiki or something. Google doesn’t like this and will kick your sites ranking for it.
And last but evenly important, going live.
Try and get as much linklove from others as you can possibly get. Remember, you have to rank well in Search Engines.
It all sounds increadibly easy, and people also often pretend it is.
But the truth is you will need to do your research and put in time to make it work. The key element is the 80/20 principle. Getting 80% of the value (in this case the monetization) by doing 20% of the work.
Like I said in the beginning of the topic, in the coming weeks I’ll disclose more of the plan and present it as a casestudy. Exciting isn’t it?
