Light my fire

I guess this is what every blogger experiences on occasion. The fire that burns down a bit.

You start off with enthusiasm, posting twice or maybe three times a day. As time goes by, you realise you can’t keep up the pace. Real life stuff, lack of time, you name it.

How do you fight this? Do you have to fight it? What makes the fire go away?
I’ll share what I’ve learned.

1. Stats obsession:
If you’re not a well-known person, chances are you’ll start with a very small reader base. If you get obsessed by visitor stats, hits and all that, it can get hard thinking no one is ‘interested’ in your blog.
Sure, it can be important, but it shoudn’t be the endgame. This is one mistake I making at the moment.

2. The other guys:
You probably read tens of other blogs, maybe even more.
And chances are some of them are in the majors. Lots of readers, thousands of RSS subscribers. Payed sponsorships. Lots of income from ad networks.
So easy to be jealous of successfull bloggers.

3. To many roads to walk:
Although I love to talk about webusability and SEO, I find myself going offtopic a lot.
Is this good or bad? I have no idea really. It definately puts a strain on a professional image I guess.

 4. Personal routines:
I’m a very hectic person and I find it difficult to create a daily ritual for my blogging.
This is definately something you need in order to get some motion in your blog.

One of the main reasons for (non-paid) blogging should be fun. As long as you find it interesting and are enjoying it, you should not worry. But that’s sometimes to easy to forget.

Same goes for me as well. Once you have your blog up and running keeping it well stocked with content is often more difficult.
